Health Boards & Councils to be sent back to university on equal pay ?

As a result of research into the equal pay gaps across Scotland's public sector, it is now possible to compare and contrast performance on gender equality across the sector.

In terms of conducting equal pay audits and publishing equal pay gaps, the universities are leading the public sector.

Table 14 shows that 60.4% of university workers have had their pay systems audited for equal pay.  Health Boards are poorest performers in the public sector with only 1.56% of the NHS workforce having had their pay systems audited for equal pay.  Councils are better performers than the NHS with 27.6% of their workforce covered by equal pay audits.  Other public bodies are better still, with 48.1% of their workforces covered by equal pay audits.

Looks like health boards and councils in Scotland need to go back to university if they are to learn how to start real work on delivering equal pay for women.

This data has been shared with Scottish government and the Equality & Human Rights Commission.  Neither body plans to do anything that will frighten whatever horses are left and not been stuffed into sausages, burgers or lasagne ready-meals.
